sparks cakes visual + sparkle
I’m in the midst of building out the branding for a Pastry Chef, Sparks Cakes, and wanted to gather some color inspiration to visualize the array of hues available. My client wanted a sweet palette full of roses, peaches, and salmon colors with hints of shimmer and glamour…I think this visual + sparkle = inspiration is pretty spot on, no?!
That image from a Sitting In A Tree event via Grey Likes Weddings with the shimmery salmon-colored dresses and the cupcakes is the quintessential feel for the company. And the colors are a perfect palette for a sweet Baby Shower Invitation as well.
Here’s a sneak peek at the logo I’m helping finalize from an initial sketch the client had. I’ll keep you posted on the final logo and collateral pieces when those are complete.

visual + sparkle = color
This photo is a perfect example that inspiration can be found all around us in the most unexpected places. This image of a beautiful duck was taken by the fabulous photographer Paulina Merekiova. I was immediately attracted to that vibrant, orange bill and thought that the muted color palette would be a perfect contrast to its brightness. A very masculine color sequence indeed, but complimentary for a Fall event; not all Weddings have to be pink and girlie…

happy weekend :: visual + sparkle = color
I was so excited about these new visual + sparkle = color that I had to share another just before I left you for the weekend. I was immediately captivated by this large, pink door and when I saw the aqua shutters right above a new Wedding Invitation color palette sprouted in my mind. Perfect for an early Spring Wedding or Quinceañera, don’t you think, while there’s still a little chill in the air?
Many new things coming in the month ahead. I just sent out the Frank Lloyd Wright Wedding Invitations I mentioned here so I will share the final pictures of those with you as soon as the soon-to-be newlyweds receive them.
Happy Weekend!

visual + sparkle = color
I’m starting a new visual + sparkle category today (well, actually more like transitioning one that was already present), all inspired by this single image I came upon just a few weeks ago: Julianne Moore for Talbots by Mert & Marcus. I immediately fell in love with the color variances of the image and I thought “that would make a fantastic color palette for a Wedding Invitation!”…don’t you think?
So, I instantly saved the image to my Pinterest and as the days passed I came across other gorgeous images which caught my eye mainly for their color palette. And so, the new visual + sparkle = color category was born…a place where you’ll find an abundance of visual color candy perfect for your Wedding or Quinceañera inspiration…along with the visual + sparkle = inspiration, of course.
The above visual + sparkle = color would be perfect for a late Spring or early Fall Celebration; something close to Summer for the Caribbean-esque aqua tones.
This is a unique color combination that has so much contrast yet still manages to keep some complimentary hues…maybe for a late Summer or early Fall Wedding?!
And this one…well, what can I say?! The colors are so soft, simple and subdued, just as the subject matter is, that it would make a perfect color scene for an early Spring or maybe even a late Fall Wedding; something closer to Winter due to the muted gray tone.
These are just a few of many of the new color inspirations I’ve put together. I’ll be popping in every now and again with a new one as I find more lovely images that inspire me so stay tuned. Make sure to click on the image to view it’s source and view more visual + sparkle on my Pinterest.
If you have an image that you love for it’s colors and would like me to put together a custom visual + sparkle = color for you, just send me an email with a link to the image. You can find my email under the about section of this blog.

a frank lloyd wright {wedding} invitation – sneak peak
I had mentioned there were many new projects in the cards for LizzyB Loves this year and one that I just sent to print is this sophisticated yet casual, Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired wedding invitation. I had shown you the Sedona-inspired visual + sparkle a few weeks ago, but after more conversations with the soon-to-be’s, and after narrowing down the color palette to the one you see above (all the bride’s favorite colors- a tile designer herself), I transformed the once ‘…pretty and 20′s and deco-looking…’ inspiration into a more ‘…masculine-feminine balanced and more creative and fun and bold…’ looking one; this in the words of Meg, the future bride.
Here’s a sneak peak into the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired wedding invitation suite: the invitation above with a custom-designed pattern…
…and the rsvp following in the same motifs which are used throughout the entire wedding invitation suite. I think a success in accomplishing the ‘creative, fun, and bold’ requirement! {make sure to click on the visual + sparkle image to view in full!}

a frank lloyd wright {wedding} visual sparkle
I’m in the midst of designing a new Wedding Invitation, get this, with a Frank Lloyd Wright/Sedona theme. Can you imagine the beauty? With some great insight from the future newlyweds I found out that there is a beautiful Church built into the mesas of Sedona inspired by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright.
I took this as my starting point, along with some requests from the soon to be Mr. & Mrs., and created this lovely visual + sparkle = wedding full of pinks, blues and Sedona-colored images. {make sure to click on the image to view in full!}

what i’ve been up to
I had mentioned last year that I was starting a Printmaking class…well, it was pretty interesting to learn about the various techniques used in centuries past to create what we so easily create now with digital media. A true eye-opening experience. Here is a sneak peek into my creations while I finalize the photography of the actual pieces:
Lithography – this was my favorite process. I started out using simple, one-dimensional designs just to try out the technique, but WOW did I learn that you can go in so many directions. Igor Koutsenko is one of my new favorite artists which I discovered through the class and he has some fabulous work you can check out here. I’m anxious to try out a few new designs of my own; I’ll keep you posted.
Etching – Now this was a long and laborious process, probably my least favorite of all, but it was surely a learning experience in self-discipline.
Collagraphy – This was another of my favorite techniques as well. A fun and mind-boggling process, it’s fun to put the pieces together and see something arise on to the thick paper straight off the press.

happy weekend + minted wedding invitations
I’m on to the first round of voting for the Minted Happily Ever After Wedding Challenge. Go on there and vote…please!
Although my City Lights was the only design which made it through this time around, I have a few favorites from other fabulous designers…check them out:
This was my absolute favorite invitation. The ladies of Alethea and Ruth truly have the most sophisticated design sense with a touch of folk thrown in. I totally fell in love with this design, I couldn’t keep my eyes off it, every single word is set appropriately in its place be it in a banner or in the logo. Perfect!!! I loved these ladies’ designs so much I couldn’t decide which to showcase, check out my other favorites here and here.
This design caught my eye due to the unique take on Japanese Washi tape. The perfect design motif in the varying patterns.
I’m always looking for uniqueness in invitation design, which this time around was sprinkeled sparingly in the Wedding Challange, but this design by lehan paper design fit the bill perfectly with the report card concept. Interesting!
Have a great weekend, see you next week!

happily ever after {minted} wedding invitations
I’m back at it again. Minted, in collaboration with WeddingChannel.com, recently had their biggest challenge ever…a Wedding Invitation Challenge. I entered a few of my creations for a chance at launching my own line of wedding invitations with Minted.
I kept away from the typical floral backgrounds this time around and focused on a more modern take on the Wedding Invitation. Perfect for the contemporary urban couple looking for something different for their big day.
Background textures, gradients, and geometric shapes make these designs uniquely graphic.
This is the perfect Wedding Invitation for the city couple.
Check all of these designs out on Minted and vote!!
